The primary aim of yoga is to restore the mind to simplicity and peace, to free it from confusion and distress. This sense of calm comes from the practice of yogic asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation. Yoga gently rejuvenates the body and frees the mind from the negative feelings caused by the fast pace of modern life. It helps to overcome all obstacles on the path to perfect health and contentment.

The impact of yoga is never purely physical. After a session of yoga, the mind becomes tranquil. Yoga uses physical exercises, without leading to breathlessness or exhaustion. Many forms of execise require physical strength and endurance and can lead to a feeling of fatigue. However, yoga brings a sense of rejuvenation to your body, strengthening the nervous system and its capacity to endure stress. Your mind is freed from stress and filled with calm and tranquility.

General Class

During the sessions you will progressively learn classical asanas (yoga postures), different pranayama practices and training your mind and body for meditation. Yoga classes include:
- Asanas (physical practices)

During the practice we concentrate on the body, the breath and the mind. The purpose of yoga is to unify their actions. It is important to notice how we breathe, how we feel the breath, and how we coordinate our breathing with our physical movement. The principles that follow are age-old, developed by many generations of great yoga teachers.

- Pranayama (breathing exercises)

The word pranayama consists of two parts: prana and ayama. Ayama means "stretch" or "extend," and describes the action of pranayama. Prana refers to "that which is infinitely everywhere". Prana is filling us and keeping us alive: it is vitality. Our state of mind is closely linked to the quality of prana within. In yoga we are trying to make use of these connections so that prana concentrates and can freely flow within us. Pranayama helps to reduce waste matter in the body by directing the agni, fire situated in the vicinity of the navel in yogic physiology.

- Mudras and Bandhas (psycho-physiological energy release techniques)

Bandha means "to bind or tie together, to close" or "to lock". The old texts tell us that by using the bandhas, the agni can be directed to the exact place where the rubbish has settled and is blocking the flow of energy in the body. The bandhas intensify the effect of the fire.

Mudras are "gestures" that help us to redirect prana around the body.

- Yoga Nidra (or deep relaxation) for inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation, or

- Meditation, visualisation and concentration techniques.
